Talk Consent brings sexual violence prevention workshops to Newham and Bexley schools
Talk Consent has recently been commissioned by Newham Council and Bexley Public Health to deliver education aimed at preventing sexual violence in schools.
In Newham, the council has commissioned 90 workshops and assemblies for £9,000, targeting students in Years 3 to 8. Although the project is still in its early stages, it has already reached 247 students across three primary schools. By the end of the school year, the programme is expected to reach at least 2,700 students, at a cost of just £3–£4 per student.
Meanwhile in Bexley, 50 workshops have been commissioned for £5,000 to support both primary and secondary schools. Public Health identified schools most in need of support, and 40 of the 50 sessions have already been booked. Delivery is set to begin on 29 April, with a projected reach of at least 1,500 students—again at a cost of £3–£4 per student.
Julie Tilbrook, Public Health Strategist in Bexley says, “We’re pleased to be working with Talk Consent to provide high-quality, age-appropriate education around consent and respectful relationships. These workshops are an important part of our commitment to safeguarding children and young people in Bexley and helping to prevent sexual violence through early intervention.”
Talk Consent provides specialist education to help schools prevent sexual misconduct. Sessions are tailored for students from Year 3 through to Year 13 and are designed to be age-appropriate, engaging, and easy for schools to access. Over the past few years, Talk Consent has worked with more than 450 schools—over 200 of them in London—and has delivered sessions to more than 180,000 students.
